What Daisy smells like

Editorial inference

It opens fresh and green: violet leaf and a splash of grapefruit, with a soft, juicy strawberry that keeps it friendly rather than sharp. Within half an hour it turns into a light floral of violet, jasmine and gardenia, clean and pretty rather than heady. The dry-down is a quiet, slightly sweet mix of white musk, soft woods and a little vanilla. It never gets loud or heavy, which is why so many people wear it every day.

How long it lasts
4–6 hours
Projection
Soft to moderate for the first hour, then close to the skin
Season
Spring and summer; fine year-round in the daytime
Best for
Daytime, school, the office and casual weekends
How much to spray
3–5 sprays

Should you sample it?

Editorial inference

You might like it if

You want an easy, cheerful floral for daytime, school or the office, or you’re buying a first perfume for someone.

You might skip it if

You want something that lasts all day or gets noticed across a room; as an Eau de Toilette it wears softly and fades within a few hours.

Why Daisy is still a best seller

Editorial inference

Marc Jacobs launched Daisy in 2007, created by Alberto Morillas of Firmenich, the perfumer behind Acqua di Giò and several other long-running best sellers. The bottle, topped with a cluster of white daisies, became as recognizable as the scent, and it has since grown into a whole family of Daisy fragrances.

Part of its staying power is that it’s so easy to wear: fresh, fruity and floral without being sugary, and light enough for school or a close office. Allure readers have voted it into the magazine’s Best of Beauty awards year after year.

Which Daisy should you choose?

Editorial inference

The original Eau de Toilette on this page is the one to start with: the greenest and most balanced. Daisy Eau So Fresh is lighter, juicier and more fruity, good for hot days. Daisy Love is creamier and sweeter, and Daisy Dream is airier and more watery.

If the original disappears too fast on you, spray it on clothes and hair as well as skin, or try one of the stronger Eau de Parfum versions in the line.

Daisy questions

What does Marc Jacobs Daisy smell like?

Fresh and lightly sweet: strawberry, grapefruit and green violet leaf at first, then violet and jasmine, drying down to soft musk and woods.

How long does Daisy last?

Usually four to six hours, and it stays fairly close to the skin after the first hour. It’s an Eau de Toilette, so it’s lighter than most perfumes on this site.

Who makes Marc Jacobs Daisy?

Daisy was created by the perfumer Alberto Morillas and launched in 2007. Marc Jacobs fragrances are made under license by Coty.

Daisy vs Daisy Eau So Fresh: what’s the difference?

The original is greener and more floral. Eau So Fresh is lighter and fruitier, with raspberry and pear, and fades faster.

Is Daisy a good first perfume?

Yes. It’s light, fresh and widely liked, and it comes in small sizes, which makes it one of the easiest first perfumes to give.
