What Light Blue smells like
Editorial inference
It opens with bright Sicilian lemon and crisp green apple, softens into a light floral heart, then settles on clean cedar and soft musk. It’s airy and sunny rather than sweet: the scent equivalent of a white shirt on holiday.

An Eau de Toilette with a light cedar and musk base; Fragrantica reviews of the pre-2025 formula widely complain of short wear, and early reports on the 2025 formula (which D&G says lasts up to 16 hours) are better but mixed. Skin, climate and how much you spray all move these numbers, which is one more reason to try a sample before a bottle.
Light Blue is one of our best perfumes for women.
To get more from a bottle, see where to spray and how to make perfume last longer, how to layer it with another scent, and how to store it so it doesn’t go off.

Why it’s a summer classic
Editorial inference
Light Blue was built for heat. Olivier Cresp set sharp Sicilian lemon and crisp apple over a light base of cedar, musk and a little amber, and kept it an Eau de Toilette. There’s no vanilla or heavy resin to turn sticky in the sun, so it stays clean and bright in weather where sweeter perfumes feel cloying. Dolce & Gabbana sells it as the spirit of a Sicilian summer, and the scent is simple enough to live up to that: lemon first, then something woody and clean.
The advertising did the rest. From 2007, when D&G launched Light Blue Pour Homme by Alberto Morillas, the pair were advertised together in campaigns shot by Mario Testino on Capri, with David Gandy as the face for years. That made Light Blue a his-and-hers summer set, and the house kept the Mediterranean theme going with limited editions named after Italian islands and coastal towns, from Dreaming in Portofino (2012) to Sunset in Salina (2015).
Twenty-five years on it’s still a staple, which is why Dolce & Gabbana chose to refine it rather than replace it. The appeal hasn’t changed: it’s pleasant on almost anyone, easy to wear to the office or the beach, and it doesn’t demand much thought. It’s also one of the easiest perfumes to try before you buy, since it’s stocked at Sephora, Ulta and most big US department stores.
What changed in 2025
Editorial inference
For its 25th anniversary in 2025, Dolce & Gabbana relaunched both Light Blue and Light Blue Pour Homme. Olivier Cresp and Alberto Morillas refined their original formulas, and the brand says the new versions are more intense and last up to 16 hours. The bottle changed too: frosted glass with rounded edges, silver trim and an enamelled blue cap inspired by Amalfi Coast ceramics. The women’s Eau de Toilette is now refillable, with a 148 ml refill.
The notes D&G lists are the same (lemon, Granny Smith apple, cedarwood), but early wear reports on Fragrantica describe the new version as a little sweeter and muskier, with a softer, less tart opening, and most say it lasts longer than before. Some long-time wearers miss the sharper citrus of the original. Treat ‘16 hours’ as a brand claim, since reports vary widely. If you loved the old one, test the new bottle before replacing it: older stock still turns up at discounters.

| Light Blue Pour HommeAlberto Morillas | 2007 | The men’s Light Blue, a separate scent built on lemon, rosemary and patchouli: more aromatic and woody. Also refined in 2025, and joined by a Pour Homme Eau de Parfum in 2026. |

Light Blue questions
What’s the difference between Light Blue and Light Blue Intense?
Light Blue Eau Intense (2017) is an Eau de Parfum by the same perfumer with less citrus and more florals: marigold and jasmine in the heart, amberwood and musk in the base, so it’s warmer and longer lasting. It’s no longer on Dolce & Gabbana’s US site and fans report it has been discontinued, so it mostly turns up at discounters. Don’t confuse it with the new Light Blue Eau de Parfum (2026), which is built around lemon, frangipani and ambery woods.
Is Light Blue for men or women?
The original Light Blue is marketed to women; the men’s version is Light Blue Pour Homme (2007), a separate scent by Alberto Morillas. The women’s is fruity, lemon and apple over cedar, while Pour Homme is more aromatic and woody, built on lemon, rosemary and patchouli. Plenty of men wear the original, and it’s light and clean enough to suit anyone.
Does Light Blue last long?
Not especially: expect around 4 to 6 hours, fading to a soft musk well before the end of the day. Short wear was the most common complaint about the pre-2025 formula in Fragrantica reviews. D&G says the 2025 formula lasts up to 16 hours, and wear reports say it’s better, but results vary. Spraying clothes or carrying the 10 ml travel spray helps.
Is Light Blue good for summer?
Yes, summer is where it’s at its best. The lemon and apple opening and clean cedar base stay fresh in heat and humidity, and it’s light enough not to crowd an office or a hot commute. In winter it can feel thin; if you want its brightness with more warmth, sample the new Light Blue Eau de Parfum or Devotion.
Has Light Blue been reformulated?
Yes. In 2025 Dolce & Gabbana relaunched the Eau de Toilette for its 25th anniversary with the same key notes, a refined formula and a new frosted, refillable bottle. Wear reports describe it as slightly sweeter and muskier than the old version, and longer lasting. If you’re replacing an old bottle, sample the new one first.
