What Devotion smells like
Editorial inference
A sugary candied-lemon opening leads into honeyed orange blossom over a soft, creamy vanilla base. Dolce&Gabbana built it around the Italian panettone, and it’s sweet and cheerful rather than dark.
Devotion notes

- Top notes
- candied citrus
- Heart notes
- orange blossom
- Base notes
- Madagascar vanilla
Dolce & Gabbana publishes just these three notes and calls the citrus ‘candied lemons’ elsewhere; Fragrantica’s listing adds panna cotta and rum accords to the heart.

Eau de Parfum concentration with a vanilla base, and Fragrantica wear reports, which range from fading after 5–6 hours to lasting a full day. Skin, climate and how much you spray all move these numbers, which is one more reason to try a sample before a bottle.

The panettone behind Devotion
Editorial inference
Dolce & Gabbana tells Devotion’s origin as a food story. In a feature created for the brand, Olivier Cresp calls it “a celebration of the irresistible Italian dessert, panettone, and its delectable aromas.” In an interview with VITA Daily he traced the idea to a lunch with the Dolce & Gabbana team at DG Martini in Milan, where the chef served panettone: “Its warm aroma enveloped us, and I was transported to a world of sweet, citrusy delight.”
Panettone is the tall Milanese Christmas bread studded with candied citrus peel and raisins, and Devotion picks out the citrus rather than the dough. The brand lists just three notes: candied citrus on top, orange blossom in the heart and Madagascar vanilla in the base. Cresp calls it “a concise yet powerful blend”, and says the fresh, luminous notes are meant as “a bridge for individuals who might not typically lean towards gourmand fragrances.”
The link to the house isn’t only a metaphor. Dolce & Gabbana sells its own panettoni, made with the Sicilian pastry maker Fiasconaro in tins inspired by Sicily’s painted carts. Devotion’s bottle carries the Sacred Heart, which the brand presents as a symbol of love and gratitude, and the motif now runs across the whole Devotion line, from the amber Intense to the men’s bottles.

Devotion questions
What’s the difference between Devotion and Devotion Intense?
Devotion Intense (2024) replaces the candied lemon opening with hazelnut, so it’s nuttier, darker and warmer, while keeping the orange blossom and vanilla. The original is brighter and more lemony. Both are by Olivier Cresp, and the Intense comes in an amber bottle. If the lemon is what drew you in, stick with the original.
Is Devotion too sweet?
It’s sweet, but lighter than most gourmands. The candied lemon and orange blossom keep the first hour bright, and there’s no coffee, caramel or praline weighing it down. The drydown is mostly soft vanilla, so if vanilla-sweet perfumes usually bother you, wear a sample for a few hours before buying.
Devotion or La Vie est Belle: which should I choose?
Choose La Vie est Belle if you want a rich, room-filling gourmand: praline and vanilla over powdery iris and patchouli, with big projection and all-day wear. Choose Devotion if you want something brighter and simpler, lemon and orange blossom over vanilla, that sits closer to the skin. La Vie est Belle is the heavier and sweeter of the two.
Does Devotion last long?
Most people get around 6 to 8 hours. It’s an Eau de Parfum with a vanilla base, so the drydown lingers, but it settles close to the skin after the first few hours. Fragrantica reviewers are split: many report a full day, others say it fades noticeably after 5 or 6 hours.
Is Devotion a winter perfume?
It’s at its best in autumn and winter, and the panettone theme makes it a natural fit for the holiday season. The citrus top keeps it wearable in spring and on cool summer evenings, but in real heat the vanilla can feel heavy.
Is there a men’s Devotion?
Yes. Devotion for Men (also listed as Devotion Pour Homme) launched in 2025, also by Olivier Cresp: an Eau de Parfum of Italian lemon, a coffee accord and patchouli. There’s also a Parfum with lavender, coffee, tonka bean and vanilla. They share the name and the Sacred Heart bottle, not the women’s candied-lemon and orange blossom accord.
