Light Blue vs Devotion: which Dolce&Gabbana to sample?

Both are from Dolce&Gabbana, both were created by Olivier Cresp, and both open with lemon. From there they go opposite ways: Light Blue is crisp and airy, with apple and clean cedar, while Devotion candies the lemon and wraps it in orange blossom and vanilla. Sample Light Blue first if you want something fresh for warm weather, and Devotion if you want something sweet and cheerful. Editorial inference

How they differ Editorial inference

What they share

Lemon is the first thing you smell in both, and both come from the same perfumer, Olivier Cresp, more than 20 years apart. Both are bright and cheerful rather than dark or moody, and both are marketed to women by the same house, which is why they end up on the same counter.

Light Blue: lemon, apple and cedar

In Light Blue the lemon stays sharp and sparkling, paired with crisp green apple. A light floral heart passes quickly, and it settles on clean cedar and soft musk. It’s an Eau de Toilette and wears light, which is why it’s a summer favourite.

Devotion: candied lemon and vanilla

Devotion turns the lemon sugary, like candied peel, then adds honeyed orange blossom over a soft, creamy vanilla base. Dolce&Gabbana built it around the Italian panettone. It’s a gourmand, sweet and dessert-like, but brighter than coffee- or caramel-led perfumes.

Which should you sample first?

Choose Light Blue if

You want a fresh, easy scent for hot days and holidays, and sweet perfumes aren’t your thing.

Choose Devotion if

You like sweet, gourmand perfumes, you want something cosy for cooler months, and you’d like a brighter alternative to coffee or caramel scents.

Because both open on lemon, they can smell closer than they are in the first minute. Wait for the heart to come through: that’s where Light Blue turns clean and woody and Devotion turns creamy and sweet.
