What Polo Blue smells like
Editorial inference
It opens cool and watery: melon, cucumber and bergamot, a bit like a fruit salad on ice. After a few minutes it turns green and herbal as sage, basil and geranium come through, and it settles into a soft, clean base of suede, musk and a little patchouli. It’s fresh and relaxed rather than sharp or sweet.

Based on the Eau de Toilette concentration and fresh, light top notes, Ralph Lauren’s own description (moderate sillage, lasting up to seven hours), and wear reports on Fragrantica, which mostly range from three to seven hours. Skin, climate and how much you spray all move these numbers, which is one more reason to try a sample before a bottle.

Should you sample it?
Editorial inference
You might like it if
You want a clean, easygoing cologne for warm weather and daily wear, or an affordable, safe gift for a man whose taste you don’t know well.
You might skip it if
You want something long-lasting or noticeable in the evening, or melon notes smell dated to you; the Eau de Parfum or Parfum are the stronger versions.
Why Polo Blue is still everywhere
Editorial inference
Polo Blue launched in 2003, at the height of the fresh aquatic trend, and it has been a department-store staple ever since, especially as a holiday gift set. In a 2026 Google Trends study it was the most-searched fragrance in two US states and second in eighteen more.
Its appeal is that it’s hard to dislike. It’s clean without smelling like soap, fresh without smelling like the sea, and it costs much less than Bleu de Chanel or Sauvage.
EDT, EDP or Parfum?
Editorial inference
The Eau de Toilette on this page is the original, in the blue glass bottle, and the freshest. Polo Blue Eau de Parfum (2016) keeps the fresh, marine opening but adds cardamom, orris and vetiver, so it’s woodier and a little more grown-up; many wearers say it doesn’t last much longer. Polo Blue Parfum (2022) is the richest: mandarin and pink pepper over lavender, vetiver and oak.
Pick the EDT for summer and casual wear, the Parfum if you want one bottle for evenings and colder months. Polo Ultra Blue (2018) is a separate, saltier and more citrus-forward scent, not a stronger Polo Blue.

Polo Blue questions
What does Polo Blue smell like?
Cool melon and cucumber at first, then green herbs like sage and basil, and finally a soft suede and musk base. It smells clean, watery and relaxed.
Polo Blue EDT vs EDP: which should I choose?
Choose the EDT if you want the classic fresh melon-and-cucumber scent for warm weather. Choose the EDP if you want something woodier and a little more mature, with vetiver in the base. For evenings and winter, look at the Parfum.
How long does Polo Blue last?
Most people get four to six hours, with noticeable projection for about the first hour. Ralph Lauren says up to seven. Spray it on clothes as well as skin if you want it to last longer.
Polo Blue vs Acqua di Giò: which should I choose?
Both are fresh, easy aquatic colognes. Polo Blue is sweeter and greener, with melon, cucumber and sage. Acqua di Giò is more citrusy and marine. Polo Blue is usually the cheaper of the two.
Is Polo Blue a good gift?
It’s one of the safest men’s cologne gifts. It’s widely liked, easy to wear every day, and sold in gift sets with deodorant or a travel spray at most department stores during the holidays.
