What Man Wood Essence smells like

Editorial inference

It opens with coriander and a tingle of Sichuan pepper, moves into cypress and a smooth cashmere-wood accord, and dries down to earthy vetiver and dense woods. It’s darker and warmer than the fresher 2018 Wood Essence Eau de Parfum.

Top notes
coriander, Sichuan pepper
Heart notes
cypress, cashmere wood accord
Base notes
vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, guaiac wood

Bvlgari’s own site names patchouli, cedarwood and guaiac wood as the ‘intense wood blend’ in the base; the full top/heart/base split is the brand copy used by Nordstrom, and matches Fragrantica.

How long Man Wood Essence lasts, and how it wears

Editorial inference Typical figures, not our own timing.

How long it lasts
7–9 hours
Projection
Moderate for the first couple of hours, then a close, woody aura
Season
Autumn and winter, plus cool spring evenings
Best for
Evenings, dinners, the office in cooler months
How much to spray
1–2 sprays

Parfum concentration over a dense base of vetiver, patchouli and guaiac wood; as a 2026 launch it has few wear reports yet (early Fragrantica votes lean towards long-lasting with average sillage), so treat this as provisional. Skin, climate and how much you spray all move these numbers, which is one more reason to try a sample before a bottle.

Man Wood Essence is one of our best fall and winter perfumes.

How the Parfum differs from the 2018 Eau de Parfum

Editorial inference

The original Man Wood Essence Eau de Parfum launched in 2018, also by Alberto Morillas. It opens with Italian citrus zest and coriander leaf, then moves into cypress, vetiver and cedar over a benzoin base. It’s the fresher, greener take: woody, but with a bright, almost clean opening, and reviews often describe it as quiet, with modest projection.

The Parfum keeps the cypress and vetiver backbone and the coriander, but drops the citrus zest. Sichuan pepper takes its place at the top, a cashmere-wood accord sits in the heart, and the base is thickened with what Bvlgari calls an “intense wood blend” of patchouli, cedarwood and guaiac wood. Bvlgari describes it as the woodiest creation in the collection. The result is darker, warmer and slightly smoky, rather than simply a stronger version of the EDP.

Pick the EDP if you want a fresh woody scent for daytime and warm weather, or if you already find dense woods heavy. Pick the Parfum if the EDP felt too light or faded quickly on you, or if you want something for evenings and colder months. Bvlgari still sells both, so you can usually compare them side by side.

Man Wood Essence questions

Is it Bvlgari or Bulgari?

Both are right. The company is Bulgari, named after its founder, and BVLGARI is its logo spelling, which swaps the U for a V in the style of classical Latin inscriptions. That’s why you’ll see the fragrance searched as both “Bulgari Man Wood Essence” and “Bvlgari Man Wood Essence”; they’re the same thing.

What’s the difference between Man Wood Essence Parfum and the EDP?

The Parfum is a different, darker composition, not just a stronger EDP. The 2018 EDP is citrus and coriander leaf over cypress, vetiver and cedar, while the Parfum replaces the citrus with Sichuan pepper and adds a dense base of patchouli, cedarwood and guaiac wood. Expect the Parfum to last longer and feel warmer.

Is Man Wood Essence Parfum good for summer?

It isn’t the best choice for hot days. Dense, spicy woods can feel heavy in heat, and the Parfum is built for cooler weather and evenings. On a summer evening one spray works; for daytime heat, the fresher 2018 EDP or Terre d’Hermès are easier.

How long does Man Wood Essence Parfum last?

Expect around seven to nine hours, with the pepper fading first and the woody base lasting longest. That’s an estimate from the Parfum concentration and its heavy base notes: it only launched in 2026, so there are few wear reports so far. It should comfortably outlast the 2018 EDP, which is often described as quiet.

Is Man Wood Essence Parfum similar to Terre d’Hermès?

They’re related in style rather than similar in smell. Both are dry, grown-up and end on vetiver, but Terre d’Hermès opens with bitter orange and a flinty, mineral note, while Man Wood Essence Parfum opens with pepper and turns warmer and darker. Terre suits daytime; the Parfum suits evenings.

Is Man Wood Essence Parfum good for the office?

Yes, in cooler months and with a light hand. It’s dry and woody rather than sweet, so it reads as polished, but a Parfum goes further than an EDP: one spray, or two at most, is plenty for a shared space. In summer the 2018 EDP is the safer office pick.

Is the Parfum worth it if I already own the EDP?

Only if you want a different mood, not just more strength. The Parfum is darker and spicier, so the two work as a pair: the EDP for warm days and daytime, the Parfum for evenings and winter. If you love the EDP’s fresh citrus opening, sample the Parfum first, because that part is gone.
